QAC's "Dragons' Den" competition returns!

For a number of years now, our seasonal fundraising events have raised money for our students’ Dragons' Den competition, with all money raised going to an ‘investment pot’ which students and staff could apply to for different projects. Unfortunately, due to limited fundraising income during Christmas 2020, there was no competition that year, but thanks to a lot of support at events such as our Christmas Fayre and Raffle last Christmas, Dragons' Den was back this year!

Students (and staff) were able to apply for up to £300 to make their projects possible, and following their initial applications they then had to practice their research, communication, presentation and money skills by pitching to our 3 (very friendly) dragons.

Over the course of ‘Dragons' Day’ earlier this month, the panel saw 30 presentations for different projects and even got to make their own lava lamps as part of a presentation experiment. Students did really well on the day, and as a result, 22 of the projects were successful, from across our PFL, LEAP, Pinewood and Student Services areas with some fantastic ideas.

As a result of their hard work, and newly found confidence, groups secured funding for projects including group trips and visits, counselling and mentoring resources, new equipment for different programmes and materials and resources for different activities.

A big well done to everyone involved in the applications and presentations, you all did really well and we look forward to sharing more news about the different projects as and when they happen.
