QAC students organise LGBTQ+ History Month 2023 Awareness Event
Members of our College 'SPARK' (LGBTQ+) student group decided to mark LGBTQ+ History Month, which is celebrated throughout February in the UK, by setting up a stall and raffle to raise money for future LGBTQ+ projects and events in and around College.
Based in the Learning Resource Centre, the stall included different LGBTQ+ themed accessories and fidgets, a raffle with prizes such as theatre vouchers to the value of £60 and a guess how many sweets were in the jar competition. All staff and students were able to get involved, helping the group to raise a fantastic £350 in total.
LGBTQ+ students value the ‘SPARK’ peer support group where they can meet and talk to staff and each other about their experiences. These sessions take place every Friday in an accessible, inclusive and friendly environment.
QAC is proud to support LGBTQ+ History Month, it provides an opportunity to connect and reflect on the past and present of the LGBTQ+ community, celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and progress towards equality. Founded in 2004 by Schools OUT co-chairs, Paul Patrick & Professor Emeritus Sue Sanders, LGBTQ+ History Month was first celebrated in February 2005.
