PFL students enjoy success at Derwen College's Skills Competitions 2024
Students from Preparation for Life (PFL) groups, Step Up Sage and Step Up Red had the opportunity to showcase their skills as part of Derwen College’s 2024 Skills Competitions.
The categories entered by the students included 'Hospitality: Table laying' and 'Retail: Visual Merchandising' with a focus on making and displaying items based on the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
The student groups did an amazing job and those who attended presented their merchandise extremely well, so well in fact, that the students came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition, which is a huge achievement!
QAC student Janay commented: “I felt happy when I got second place, and I'm really proud of the effort I put into my work.”
QAC student Paige added: “My favourite part of the day was setting up the shelves for the competition with my friends.”
QAC student Ruby stated: “I’m feeling happy, I feel really proud of myself and my team!”
QAC student Josh commented “I feel amazing. My favourite part was showing off our designs.”
Taking part in the competitions is a great way for students to demonstrate their skills and readiness for work and independence. The competitions were open to students aged 16-25, and who are working at up to Level 1 in mainstream or specialist colleges or schools, and provided the opportunity to demonstrate their talents in hospitality, retail, performing arts and horticulture.
Congratulations to the winners and all the students that took part in the Skills Competitions 2024 - everyone at QAC is very proud of you!
