ROLE: Grounds Maintenance

Liaising with RSPCA staff, the group were tasked with completing garden maintenance jobs such as planting flowers, cleaning and organising outdoor areas. All the students enjoyed using a variety of tools and safety equipment to help complete their jobs.

During the placement, students developed a range of skills such as fine motor, communication, problem-solving and teamwork.

The PFL programme enables learners to develop the skills they need to participate within the community and, where possible, the workplace. The programme is designed for students who are working at pre-entry to entry level and offers a great deal of variety.

NAME: Brendan

PLACEMENT: QAC Thrift Shop

ROLE: Retail Assistant

" Working in the Thrift Shop has been an interesting experience. We set it up at the beginning of the year and now it is full of items. I have learnt how to calculate money when serving people in the shop.  It has been ok to see what others buy."

Brenden is a hard-working individual, he is reliable and staff can always count on him to show up. He has shown great progression in his money skills and his ability to confidently serve customers in the Thrift shop. Brenden is a quiet young man but when given the opportunity to run the shop independently his confidence really shines. We are all proud of Brenden and feel lucky to have him as part of our team.

Brenden is developing his confidence, his independence and work skills to help him prepare for a future employment opportunity.
