Level 3 Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma / Diploma/Extended Diploma in Art and Design (QCF)

Entry Requirements:
•  Level 2 in Art and Design or
•  4 GCSEs at a minimum grade of C or above
•  An appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy
•  You will also need to attend an interview with examples of your art work

Programme Outline:
The Level 3 in Art and Design is a nationally recognised qualification which has been designed to provide a highly specialist work-related programme of study. The Level 3 programme gives you the knowledge, understanding and skills that are needed to prepare for employment within a general or in a particular Art/Design sector.

The qualification is a workshop and studies based, hands-on course that is about building a portfolio of art and design work through varied set and negotiated projects and fundamentally to further develop your creative thinking and individuality.

The programme provides you with an introduction to 2D and 3D studies. These include photography, printmaking, visual communication, graphic design, multimedia and 3D crafts, alongside historical & contextual references throughout the duration of the course.

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Art and Design(QCF)
This is a 30-credit programme that focuses on the particular elements in art and design such as visual recording and the exploration of materials, techniques and processes. The Level 3 Certificate is broadly equivalent to one GCE AS Level.

BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design(QCF)
This is a 60-credit programme that focuses on four main areas within art and design. These include visual recording; materials, techniques, and processes; ideas and concepts and communication through art and design. The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma offers greater flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the optional units. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design(QCF)
This is a 120-credit programme that broadens and expands the specialist work-related focus from the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma. It is broadly equivalent to two GCE A Levels.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (QCF)
This is a 180-credit programme that extends and deepens the specialist work-related focus from the Level 3 Diploma. There is potential for the qualification to prepare you for appropriate direct employment in the Art/Design sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular specialist area of work or further develop a particular Art/Design specialism. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Levels.

Duration:
Start dates for these programmes are flexible, with completion usually achieved within two to three years.

Progression:
On successful completion of a Level 3 in Art and Design qualification, you can progress to employment and/or continue your study in the same or related vocational area within further education or university.
