Level 2 Certificate/Extended Certificate/Diploma in Sport (QCF)

Entry Requirements:
•  Level 1 in Sport and Active Leisure (QCF) or

•  4 GCSEs at a minimum grade D-G

•  An appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy

•  A good NVQ Level 1 or Level 2 in an associated discipline

•  Related work experience

Programme Outline:
The Level 2 in Sport has been designed to give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. Enrolling on the Level 2 in Sport gives you the opportunity to achieve a nationally-recognised Level 2 vocationally-specific qualification.

Examples of units you would study include ‘Fitness Testing and Training’; ‘Practical Sport’ and ‘Outdoor and Adventurous Activities’.

There are three pathways that can be chosen dependent on entry qualifications and experiences.

Level 2 Certificate in Sport (QCF)
This is a 15-credit programme that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the Sport sector. It is broadly equivalent to one GCSE.

Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport (QCF)
This is a 30-credit programme which extends the specialist work-related focus of the Level 2 Certificate and covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the Sport sector. It is broadly equivalent to two GCSEs. The Level 2 Extended Certificate offers an engaging programme for those learners who are clear about the area of employment that they wish to enter.

Level 2 Diploma in Sport (QCF)

This is a 60-credit programme which extends the specialist work-related focus of the Level 2 Extended Certificate. This qualification gives you opportunities to prepare for employment in the Sport sector. It is broadly equivalent to four GCSEs.

Duration:
Start dates for these programmes are flexible, with completion usually achieved within two years.

Progression:
On successful completion of a Level 2 in Sport qualification, you can progress to a Level 3 in Sport or vocationally related qualification in a relevant subject as a stepping stone to employment.
