Students and Staff 24hr endurance spin raises funds for new Sports Hall
In March 2013, Staff and Students took part in a real test of endurance in order to raise funds for a much needed Sports Hall.
Three QAC Students accompanied by three members of staff, embarked on a 24hour spin bike challenge. Working in shifts, the group completed a non stop spinning session which commenced at 3pm on Tuesday 26th March. They continued to cycle throughout the night, with various members of staff and fellow students dropping in with much needed food, drinks and encouragement, until they concluded the challenge at 3pm.
Each 'spinner' cycled for approximately 10hours and a minimum of 100miles.
The event was a fundraiser to help raise money for a Sports Hall at the College, the total cost of which will be £1.37m. Currently, most sports have to take place on the College field, which is not wheelchair friendly, or the five-a-side pitch- both of which are subject to the weather and activities are therefore often cancelled. The proposed new build will encourage and facilitate access to sporting activities and team competitions for all QAC learners, teaching learners about the spirit of participation, achievement and enjoyment, whilst also improving exercise, mobility and health.
As a charity, QAC relies on donations and events to help provide valuable resources for their learners. The 24hr spin bike challenge is one of many events organised to raise much needed funds.
