QAC Healthy Hearts Week

QAC students during healthy hearts week

Last week saw QAC’s Healthy Hearts’ project come to an end, with a range of activities taking place across College. This has been a year long initiative, funded by Heart Research UK, to raise awareness amongst students, and staff, around the importance of keeping your heart healthy and how to do this.

The Sport & Rec group ran fitness tests, Hospitality held healthy cafes and smoothie competitions and our Health & Social Care students held health clinics checking pulse rates and heart rates.

Vicki Litherland, Lifestyle Officer for HRUK, visited last week commenting that she “thoroughly enjoyed meeting the students who were so happy and confident and had clearly learnt a lot about their hearts and the project has been delivered to high standards; the Healthy Hearts theme was visible throughout the college”.

As part of her visit she visited each of the groups running activities, highlights being judging the Healthy HeART competition, PFL Yellow’s Healthy Heart movie and the Sport & Rec students putting her through her in the circuit training session!

HRUK liked the project so much they have featured it on their website http://heartresearch.org.uk/
